Department of Information Technology &
Centre for Faculty & Staff Development
Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, Sikkim
IDEAS-Technology Innovation Hub
Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata
Machine Intelligence and data analytics are two closely related fields that have become increasingly important in recent years, especially in the context of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). Machine Intelligence refers to the ability of machines to learn, reason, and make decisions based on data, without explicit programming. It involves the use of algorithms and statistical models to analyse large datasets, recognise patterns, and make predictions. Machine Intelligence is the foundation of various applications, including speech recognition, natural language processing, computer vision, and robotics. Data analytics, on the other hand, is the process of inspecting, cleaning, transforming, and modelling data in order to discover useful insights and make informed decisions.
The IDEAS-Technology Innovation Hub at Indian Statistical Institute Kolkata, is a platform for promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in India. It is one of the twenty five TIHs established by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS). The primary goal of IDEAS-TIH ISI Kolkata is to encourage and support research and development activities in areas such as healthcare, energy, transportation, agriculture, and education, among others. The hub also focuses on creating a conducive ecosystem for startups and promoting collaboration between academia, industry, and the government. IDEAS-TIH ISI Kolkata offers various programs and initiatives to facilitate innovation and entrepreneurship, including incubation support, funding opportunities, training and capacity building, mentorship, and networking events. The hub also collaborates with other institutions and organisations in India and abroad to leverage their expertise and resources.
The Department of Information Technology at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) is one of the prominent departments of the institute, which is located in the state of Sikkim, India. The department is known for offering undergraduate, and PhD programs in Information Technology and related fields. The department aims to impart quality education in the field of Information Technology and produce skilled professionals who can meet the demands of the industry. It provides a comprehensive curriculum that covers topics such as programming languages, database management, web technologies, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, and cybersecurity. The faculty members of the department are highly qualified and experienced in their respective domains. They use modern teaching methodologies, such as project-based learning, to ensure that the students receive a practical understanding of the subject matter. The department also collaborates with industry partners to provide students with internships and real-world experiences.
The Centre for Faculty & Staff Development, SMIT was established in the year 2017 with the objective to provide and facilitate various technical, social, academic, ethical, and administrative trainings to the in-house and external faculty members. The Centre has successfully organized various training programs conducted by AICTE. In addition, the center has also conducted webinars, workshops and FDP programs on the recent trends of technology to acquaint the faculty members to enhance the teaching-learning process and stay aligned with the current industry requirements.
